The Fauves celebrate their 30th anniversary on July 23. They played their first gig, at the Mt Eliza Football Club, on July 23, 1988. Singer Andrew Cox later reflected: “There was no rider, we were underpaid and no one got laid. It was a microcosm of an entire career.”

Five years ago this week, Perth band Karnivool topped the ARIA charts with their third album, Asymmetry – four months after singer Ian Kenny’s other band, Birds of Tokyo, scored a number one album. He is the first singer to have two number one albums in the same calendar year with two different bands.

Happy Birthday to Savage Garden’s Daniel Jones, who turned 45 on July 22.

After eight weeks on top, 5 Seconds Of Summer’s Youngblood slips to number two. It ranks alongside Gotye’s Somebody That I Used To Know as the longest-running local chart-topper this decade. The Gotye hit spent eight weeks on top in 2011. Youngblood is one of three Aussie hits in the ARIA Top 10.
