Around this time of year, Howzat! usually ponders: Who should be inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame? Rick Springfield would have been a no-brainer, but then he cancelled his Australian tour. Surely, it's time for Stephen Cummings and The Sports? And what about Kim Salmon? Just as importantly, it's time fans had an actual hall they could visit, to celebrate Australian music. Two passionate music fans and movers-and-shakers are behind the latest push to create a music museum. Author Jessica Adams and Time Out editor Jenny Valentish led the successful campaign for a city lane to be named in honour of Chrissy Amphlett. As they point out, "With the passing of so many great names in recent years, we are losing those incredible memories for all time." Jessica and Jenny are also driving the Australian Music Museum Project. Right now, it's a virtual museum, at Music fans are invited to submit photos of music memorabilia and also sign a petition, urging the state and federal governments to support a museum. "The nation has a Museum of Contemporary Art," the site points out. "It has no Museum of Contemporary Music." Other AMMP board members include Craig Kamber, Tracee Hutchison, Marshall Cullen, Francis Leach and Little Pattie, Patricia Amphlett. And Chrissy's husband, Charley Drayton, is a supporter, saying: "That blue neon mic stand needs a home to glow again … and what better place than in Melbourne." Yes, Melbourne is Australia's music capital, so it's imperative that the state government creates a music museum here - before it ends up somewhere inappropriate. Of course, in this time of contrived "budget emergencies", governments will slash spending on the arts. But as Jessica points out: "The cassette tapes are breaking. The tickets and posters are fading. The T-shirts are falling apart. Rare albums go to eBay. Guitars get lost in the attic. Our memories don't last forever." Yep, it's time.

Happy Birthday to Stephen Cummings and Steve Kilbey, who both turn 60 on 13 Sep. Meanwhile, Ben Lee is 36 on 11 Sep. Ben shares a birthday with the great Renée Geyer, who will be 61.

Speaking of big birthday bashes, local guitar god Marc Welsh is celebrating his 50th on Saturday. Welshie's latest offering is Nigella, a single celebrating the "gastronomical goddess" Nigella Lawson.

Who you gonna call when you want a duet? Bernard Fanning was on both sides of the chart-topping battle between Jimmy Barnes and Kasey Chambers. He does I'm Still On Your Side with Barnesy on his new album, 30:30 Hindsight, and he sings with Kasey on the title track of her new album, Bittersweet.

"No one knows what the public wants" - Stephen Cummings, Nothing To Be Frightened Of.
