MILESTONES & MEMORIES
The first episode of Countdownwent to air 43 years ago today (November 8). The line-up featured Sherbet, Daryl Braithwaite (solo), Skyhooks, Johnny Farnham, and Linda George. Sadly, no tapes of the first show exist.

The great George Young, who died on October 22, would have been 71 on November 6.

Tracy Pew, bass player for The Birthday Party, died, aged 28, after an epileptic seizure 31 years ago this week. Nick Cave called him: “The one male genius I’ve ever met.”

Delta Goodrem turns 33 on November 9. She shares a birthday with Sean Kelly, of Models, who is turning 59.

Silverchair bass player Chris Joannou is 38 on November 10.

Goanna’s Solid Rock entered the charts 35 years ago this week.

Five years ago this week, INXS, playing with Matchbox Twenty in Perth, announced that it would be their final performance.

Hallelujah! The ARIA Top 40 features an Aussie entry this week, with Vance Joy’s Lay It On Me leaping from 41 to 40.

360 scores his third Top 5 album, with his fourth album, Vintage Modern, debuting at three, while Melbourne metal band Ne Obliviscaris (Latin for “forget not”) notch up their first Top 40 album, with their third album, Urn,arriving at 35. ARIA’s Top 40 albums features nine Aussie entries, though more than half of them are best-ofs, compilations, soundtracks or reissues, including the reissue of Jimmy Barnes’ 1985 chart-topper, For The Working Class Man, which returns at number 23. The original album sold more than 500,000 copies and spent seven weeks at number one.
