MILESTONES AND MEMORIES
The Real Thing – written by Johnny Young, sung by Russell Morris and produced by Ian “Molly” Meldrum – was played on Australian radio for the first time this week in 1969. It was the first Australian single to run for more than six minutes.

Sister Janet Mead’s The Lord’s Prayer entered the US charts this week in 1974. The single peaked at number four and became the first Australian-produced single to sell one million copies in the US.

Ross Wilson and Dame Nellie Melba were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame this week in 1989.

The 6th ARIA Awards were the first to be televised, this week in 1992. Skyhooks were inducted into the Hall of Fame, and Yothu Yindi’s Treaty won Single of the Year.

Olivia Newton-John’s Have You Never Been Mellow – written and produced by John Farrar – hit number one in the US this week in 1975.

Air Supply’s Lost In Love entered the US charts this week in 1980, becoming their first American hit. It peaked at number three.

Silverchair released their third album, Neon Ballroom, this week in1999. It debuted at number one in Australia and peaked at 50 in the US.

AC/DC were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 15 years ago this week.

Happy Birthday to Frente’s Angie Hart, who is 46 on March 8.

And we remember Andy Gibb, who would have been 60 on March 5. He died of heart problems 30 years ago this week.

Vance Joy’s We’re Going Home leaps into the Top 20, vaulting from 31 to 16. He heads ARIA’s singles and albums charts. The new 5 Seconds Of Summer single debuts at 32, while Delta’s latest single slips out of the Top 40 after just one week.
