PORN AGAIN
Paul Andrews is one of Howzat!'s favourite singers and songwriters. With his warm, emotional tone, he has a tight connection to your heart. He also knows how to write a nifty pop tune. As The Courier-Mail's Noel Mengel said, he's "one of the best songwriters in Australia". After four albums with Sydney band Lazy Susan, Paul has a new project called Family Fold. "I went with a band name because even though it's basically a solo project - me supported by a passing parade of friends and musicians - I really didn't want to release anything under my own name," Paul explains. "A childhood spent avoiding the limelight isn't easily shaken." Paul also planned to get other people to sing his songs. He has, however, ended up doing most of the vocals on the album (due mid-year), though Maia Jelavic and Sarah Humphreys appear on a few tracks. The latest single is a classic piece of electro pop called Shanie Love. So is there a real Shanie? Well, yes, there is. Shanie Love is a Dominican porn star. "I swear, it was absolutely coincidental," Paul laughs. "The song isn't written about her, but it would probably make a fascinating story if it was!" Shanie doesn't appear in the video, but it's still worth a look. And there's a fascinating backstory as well. "I have no contacts in the video field," Paul admits. "But I stumbled upon this amazing video crowd-sourcing website called Genero.tv. Here's how it works: Say if Robert Plant gets 100 people making videos for him, only one is going to be chosen. That leaves 99 videos sitting there - whole, complete videos. The site then allows other acts to negotiate with the unsuccessful video makers. That's what I did. I found a video that had been pitched unsuccessfully for another project. I negotiated with the video maker for an extremely reasonable fee, and he edited the images to my song accordingly. Brilliant outcome, as far as I'm concerned."

THE WELCOME MATT
It's already been a big year for the multi-talented Matty Vehl (Charles Jenkins and The Zhivagos, Bombay Royale). He and partner, Georgia Fields, are the proud parents to daughter Kendra, and he's doing a solo show on 5 Mar at LongPlay in North Fitzroy, previewing songs from an upcoming album.

HEARTACHE TONIGHT
Nick Barker has got a brand new album - and a brand new band. The Heartache State will release their self-titled debut on 13 Mar.
