MILESTONES AND MEMORIES
Thirty-five years ago his week, Cold Chisel announced they were breaking up. Five years ago this week, they announced they were starting their own label, Cold Chisel Music, to distribute their catalogue and any new recordings through Universal Music.

Midnight Oil’s Diesel And Dust hit number one in Australia this week in 1987, the start of a six-week reign.

INXS’s Never Tear Us Apart entered the charts 30 years ago this week.

Twenty-five years ago this week, The Cruel Sea’s The Honeymoon Is Over entered the charts.

This week in 2011, Hunters and Collectors announced they were re-forming to play at the V8 Supercars in Sydney, the band’s first full gig since their 1998 farewell tour (they also played at Sound Relief in 2009).

Six years ago this week, The Sapphires became the first Australian soundtrack to top the Australian charts since Moulin Rouge in 2001.

Five years ago this week, Russell Morris’ The Real Thing, The Atlantics’ Bombora, Peter Allen’s I Still Call Australia Home and Archie Roach’s Took The Children Away were among the recordings added to the National Registry of Recorded Sound.

Happy Birthday to Missy Higgins, who is 35 on August 19; Mark “Cal” Callaghan, from GANGgajang and The Riptides, is 61 on August 20; the Mushroom Group’s founder, Michael Gudinski, is 66 on August 22; and Rick Springfield is 69 on August 23.
