Col Joye and the Joy BoysOh Yeah Uh Huh became the first local rock song to top the Australian charts, 58 years ago this week. It was also the first number one hit to feature a typewriter.

Thirty-five years ago this week, Men At Work’s debut album, Business As Usual,topped the US charts, the start of a 15-week reign.

Thirty-one years ago this week, John Farnham’s Whispering Jack hit number one in Australia. The album would spend 25 weeks on top.

The Mushroom Records’ 25th Anniversary concert was held at the MCG, featuring Kylie, The Angels, and Jimmy Barnes singing with INXS, 19 years ago this week.

Powderfinger did their final gig, in Brisbane, seven years ago this week.

The number of homegrown hits in ARIA’s Top 40 doubles this week, with Peking Duk jumping from 49 to 37, and Vance Joy staying at number 40. It’s Peking Duk’s third Top 40 hit for 2017, equalling Sia’s record as the year’s most prolific local hit-maker.

Guy Sebastian scores his seventh Top 5 album, with his eighth studio album, Conscious, debuting at number four. Sydney metalcore band Polaris land at six with their debut album. “This is overwhelming,” the band posted on their Facebook page when they heard the chart news. “Thank you for supporting independent Australian music and proving how powerful and loyal the fans in our underground heavy scene are.” Meanwhile, Thirty Days Of Yes, the compilation supporting marriage equality, featuring artists such as Julia Jacklin, Gordi, The Teskey Brothers, Marlon Williams and Bec Sandridge, has a Top 40 debut just in time for the result of the postal survey.
